MECHANIC I

Position Description

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months

JOB GOAL: To maintain all district-owned vehicles and buses. All units must be in a state of operating excellence so that no mechanical or other interruptions occur to the educational program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish and maintain good rapport employees, community members and vendors.
  • Perform moderately complex repairs on diesel and gasoline vehicles.
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Identifies and indicated the need for parts for repair
  • Cleans and maintains all tools and testing equipment
  • Rad or ground tests on all repaired equipment.
  • Maintenance a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality
  • Maintain accurate records as needed on work performed on all district vehicles.
  • Knowledge of and adheres to all District, State and federal policies, regulations and rules.
  • Performs other responsibilities as may be assigned.
  • Perform all duties in a safe and prudent manger.

Education:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Automotive or Diesel Degree from College/Vocational Program
  • Obtain and maintenance a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain and Arizona Commercial Driver License with S and P Endorsement.
  • Two (2) years of recent school bus, automotive or diesel work experience required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
Computer Skills
  • Proficiency using transportation software is preferred.
Communication Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
Other Abilities
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to learn the use of automotive testing equipment and technical manuals.
  • Ability to meeting time schedule by punctual and reliable
  • Knowledge of and adheres to all policies, regulations and procedures.
Math Abilities:
  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divides in all unit of measure using whole number, common fractions and decimals
Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability ti interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
  • Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderate complex issues with little or no assistance.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment.
